Assistant Manager – Plants & Gardens (full time position)

We’re looking for someone with a passion for plants & real hands-on gardening experience. This role is physically demanding and requires someone who is happy working outdoors, on their feet, and lifting regularly.
The Role
Assistant Manager – Plants & Gardens – As assistant to our Plants & Gardens Manager, you’ll be central to the smooth running of our busy Plants Department. This is a highly active role, involving good teamwork, customer service and practical plant care. You’ll deputise for our Plants & Gardens Manager in their absence, making sure our displays, collections, and customer service stay at the highest standard. This is a full-time role and includes some weekend working.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with our Plants & Gardens Manager to support all areas of the department – from plants & displays to assisting with daily planning, ordering and scheduling
- Lead by example in all aspects of daily plant care: watering, feeding, pruning, repotting, sweeping, cleaning and receiving & unloading deliveries
- Creating beautiful and inspiring plant displays
- Working with the general public, always being friendly and able to offer advice on plant selection, gardening techniques and plant care
About You
- Previous experience in a horticultural environment is an advantage, a passion for plants is essential
- A general knowledge of plants would be good (species, seasonal needs and growing conditions (but we will help you learn and quickly fill in any gaps)
- Physically fit and comfortable with a very active role, including lifting, carrying, and outdoor work in all weathers
- Confident in prioritising, delegating, and working in a fast-paced setting
- Excellent customer service and a creative approach to displays
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
